Wireless

Wireless bills grow without anyone deciding they should. A line is added for a short project and never removed. A device is upgraded and the old charge stays. A plan changes and no one compares it with what the team actually uses.

A partner firm can review the account and show you where the bill and your needs have drifted apart.

Fairview Audit does not do this work itself. We connect you with a partner firm that reviews wireless costs, and you deal with that firm directly.

What a wireless review looks at

A review compares what you pay for with what your team uses and what your contract says. It usually covers phones, tablets and hotspots across every account you hold with a carrier.

Typical areas include:

  • Plans that no longer match how people use their devices.
  • Lines that are active but unused, or assigned to people who have left.
  • Device charges, installment balances and upgrade fees.
  • Taxes, surcharges and fees that appear on the invoice.
  • Contract terms, such as commitment periods and early termination conditions.
  • Billing errors, such as a promised discount that never appears.

Federal truth-in-billing rules require providers to describe each charge in plain language and to list a number for questions about a charge. Unauthorized third-party charges, known as cramming, can also appear on a phone bill.

What you provide

Your partner firm will tell you exactly what it needs. Based on how these reviews generally run, expect to gather:

  • Recent carrier invoices for every wireless account.
  • The carrier contract, with any amendments or addenda.
  • A list of lines with the name of the person or department using each one.
  • Details of devices, including purchase dates and any financing balances.
  • Correspondence with the carrier about credits, disputes or plan changes.
  • A list of issues you have already noticed.
  • Contact details for the people in your business who manage the account.

If a carrier portal gives you a usage report, share it.

What happens after you submit a request

  1. You choose a request path and submit a form.
  2. The request goes to a matched partner firm, or to Fairview for manual matching if you are not sure which path fits.
  3. A partner firm contacts you to discuss your accounts and its terms.
  4. You share the documents it asks for.
  5. The partner firm reports its findings to you.
  6. You decide, together with the firm, how to approach the carrier.

You stay involved at each stage. The engagement and any fees are between you and the partner firm, under that firm's own terms. [CONFIRM: a partner firm supplies and approves its fee model and whether you can keep your current carrier]

Who this suits

A wireless review suits a business that:

  • Has several mobile lines and no one who checks them regularly.
  • Has gone through staffing changes, a move or a growth period.
  • Has never compared its plan with its real usage.
  • Pays device financing and wants to know where the balances stand.

More than one type of firm may cover this category, and which one fits depends on your size.

Mobile charges often sit next to landline and data circuits. If your telecom spend is broader, read about telecom expense review as well.

How Fairview matches you

You pick one of three paths: larger business, smaller business, or not sure or another need. Each path has its own form, such as the smaller business form or the larger business form. If you are unsure, use the other needs form and we will match your request by hand.

Fairview passes your request to the matched partner firm. After that, you talk with the firm directly. Read how it works for the full sequence.

Who does the work

An independent partner firm that specializes in wireless handles this work. Fairview Audit makes the match. We do not perform the review ourselves.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to change carriers?

Not necessarily. A review can focus on correcting the account you have. Whether a firm also helps you compare carriers is a matter for that firm. [CONFIRM: a partner firm supplies and approves this statement]

Will the review disrupt my team?

Most of the work happens on documents. Your team may be asked to confirm who uses which line.

How far back does a review go?

That depends on the partner firm and on your carrier contract. Ask the firm during your first conversation.

Who pays for the review?

Fees are agreed between you and the partner firm. Fairview does not set them.

Can I request this if I am not sure it applies to me?

Yes. Use the other needs form and describe what you see on your bill.
